When I became a mom, I thought I would suddenly be able to some of the things my mom used to do for me when I was a kid, such as sewing clothes/costumes, fun art and other creative projects. I was so wrong.
I’ve always loved to sing and dreamed of being on stage, all eyes watching, people getting into the groove of the music, lighters lit, perhaps singing along. Along comes Battle of the Bands and I jumped at the chance to participate. My opportunity to learn to sing. How hard could it be I thought? Once again, I was so wrong.
Some people have naturally good singing voices. I am not one of them. I don’t have a terribly bad voice, nor a really good one either. Song selection is challenging. While there are a lot of songs I like to sing, they’re not necessarily right for me to sing (although, I do “rock” a lot of songs in the shower). At the first band meeting, we threw out songs we liked and listened to them to see if we could play them. My band mates asked me what “can” I sing, and what’s my “range”? Both valid questions, for which I don’t currently know the answer to, but am working hard to figure it out.
As a band, we’re in this journey together and have a lot to learn. No matter the outcome, NO REGRETS baby!
