Established in 2010, SmartRecruiters is a hiring platform that makes hiring easier. It combines free recruiting software (yes I said free) with on-demand services tailored to each company. The result is a process that makes hiring social, collaborative, enjoyable and again, easy. Recently I got to chat with David Smooke, Social Media Director at SmartRecruiters to discuss what makes their company modern and successful.
How has SmartRecruiters modernized the industry?
Ease of use. The software is free and businesses get to customize their needs. They will use the software as long as they like it. The end user wins because it’s designed to their behavior. Business owners use a regular web browser to create and post a job. It is then shared with job boards, social networks and recruiters.
Our goal is no barriers for businesses in the step-by-step process of finding the talent they need. This starts with a system to manage a talent pipeline. On top of that we have ‘the store’ where you can buy whatever type of recruiting service your company needs. We also enable posting to social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, as well as, one click distribution to 100+ generalist job boards and niche job boards. The store is a one-stop-shop for HR services that allows employers to connect with recruiters, give assessment tests or background checks for possible candidates.
Our mission is to eradicate unemployment. We use technology to give businesses easier access to talent and create more jobs as a result. We have more than 40,000 customers that have created more than 200,000 jobs to date.
Who is your typical client?
SmartRecruiters is used by many different industries. We work with startups, established small businesses and companies as large companies like EF Education First. (35,000 employees)
In three short years SmartRecruiters has gone from having 2,000 clients to close to 50,000. It is thanks to the vision Chief Executive Jerome Ternynck who saw that the market was changing. It used to take months to build a custom hiring software system for large companies. Many small or medium sized business job postings are still directing candidates to email their application information. Ternynck’s idea is that every company should have a modern system designed for hiring. It’s about keeping employers organized and empowering them through the hiring process.
How has the industry changed?
The biggest shift in recruiting is that everyone has a page on the Internet, and most businesses have recruiting software. Social platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn have made people and their skills searchable. You can find them, and their contact information. A candidate can express interest in a company with a social media profile.
The end result is more transparent and efficient labor market. Businesses can hire faster for less. At SmartRecruiters, we’ve seen our customers cut their hiring costs by approximately 30%.
How has social media played a part in how SmartRecruiters does business?
SmartRecruiters connects to many online sourcing tools and social media platforms. A company’s Facebook page is as important as their website.
Through our platform you are able to create a social career site, with a list of open jobs and a list of people in the candidate’s network who are connected to the company. We also encourage employees to get involved in the hiring process; our software has a trackable link that company employees can share on social networks.
