It’s nice to be able to give back. For ShoreTel employees it’s downright important. It’s why when we heard that one in four Central Texas children is at risk of hunger we knew we had to help. The Capital Area Food Bank, a local non-profit, needed donations to keep children fed through the summer months. It was the beginning of a fun way for all of us ShoreTel employees to get involved and give back.
This is not your regular indoor putt-putt tournament. The entry fee to the tournament was, you guessed it, a food bank donation. Teams of six to eight employees were asked to sign up, get creative and construct a golf hole.
“The general idea was to create ‘hole building teams’ with members from different departments working together with someone they likely didn’t know well,” said Terry Thomas, Senior Director of Client Services. She helped organize the Putt-A-Palooza, and the events that led up to the tournament.
“We had competitions between floors, departments and individuals who donated the most,” said Thomas.
The End Result
The all day event was successful. The 9-hole tournament raised close to $1,500. ShoreTel matched those contributions bringing the total in cash donations to $3,000. A total of 795 lbs. of food were also donated to the Capital Area Food Bank.
“In addition to feeling good about helping our community I saw lots of interaction between team members who normally don’t interact,” she said. It was a productive way to get our expanding staff to meet one another, and get to know each other while helping others.
“We contributed to our community by working on our creative golf holes, hitting a few balls, wearing silly pants and hats and having a good time. It was good for morale too,” said Corporate Events Manager, Lori Bainborough.
The team had such a good time plans are in the works for Putt-A-Palooza 2014.
