Mere months after acquiring M5 Networks to bring its unified communications (UC) prowess to customers via a hosted environment, ShoreTel (NASDAQ: SHOR) has sweetened the pot by adding mobility capability to its cloud UC offering.
ShoreTel Mobility, available now, extends the UC features and functionality of the M5 cloud-based solution to mobile devices, starting with Apple’s iPhones. Support for BlackBerry and Android-based devices is expected within a few months, said Jeff Valentine, senior vice president of Products at M5 Networks.
“Now not only do customers get their choice of platforms — either on-premise or in the cloud — they also get their choice of handset — either desktop phone or mobile phone. Either way, they get the same functionality,” he said.
ShoreTel Mobility includes the ability for users to make and receive business calls from their business number, keeping identities separate. The company is then able to run business intelligence on the business number to learn how many calls were made and received, to and from what number and/or device, and whether incoming calls were answered.
